Accommodations in Havelte

Havelte - called Haovelte in Drenthe dialect - is a small village, the largest village in the municipality of Westerveld, with about 3,500 inhabitants. Havelte has a village green and a town square (Piet Soerplein) and has the nickname "Pearl of Drenthe". Havelte is located along the canal the Drentsche Hoofdvaart.

Annual events in Havelte include the Volksfeest Havelte, the Open Air Game and the Landmacht Days in the Johannes Post barracks. Interesting sights include the Dutch Reformed Church of Havelte (outside the village center), the Kornmolen van Havelte, about 12 tombs from the funnelbeaker culture, Butterfly Paradise Papiliorama, Overcinge Estate, and Holtinger sheep cage at Holtinge (Uffelte) with a herd of 200 to 500 sheep.

Several parts of Havelte are a protected village landscape and the village counts 41 entries in the national monuments record. Havelte also has seven municipal monuments.

Havelte has several shops, especially in the middle of the village and there are various restaurants. There is a leisure park close to the city center. Information can be obtained from the Tourist Information Point (TIP). The weekly market is held on Wednesdays from 08:00 to 12:30 on the Piet Soerplein. Shops are open on Friday evenings as well.

As for nature recreation, Havelte also has a lot to offer. For example, the Havelterberg and the protected Havelte-Oost nature reserve are worth visiting. But the Brandeveen and the Holtingerveld are examples of nature areas near Havelte as well.
