Zierikzee is a town in the Dutch province of Zeeland. With about 1100 inhabitants, the city is the capital and largest town of the municipality.

Zierikzee has been a protected cityscape since 1971, one of the protected townscapes and townscapes in Zeeland, and is known as a monument city. For a relatively small city, Zierikzee has a large number of monuments, namely 569. In addition, there are another 379 municipal monuments in Zierikzee.

The current Nobelpoort, Noordhavenpoort and Zuidhavenpoort are the only remaining city gates of Zierikzee, the Westpoort, Zuidwellepoort and the Hoofdpoort were demolished in the 19th century. What is now understood by the Slingerbos was the actual foundation of the city wall, the moats of the city wall have been spared. However, there are still remnants of the city wall.

The municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland is working hard to expand and modernize Zierikzee, for example, residential areas are being renovated within the canals, and residential areas are being built outside the canals, and the center is also being renewed. In October 2015, two LED information boards were placed at the access roads to Zierikzee. Furthermore, the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland has plans to move the large retail chains to one central place outside the canals, they also plan to expand the marina to increase the number of tourists visiting the city.
